VAUGHN SPANN
Vaughn Spann is a painter whose work explores themes of identity, race, and generational memory. Drawing from personal experience, like his own encounters with racial profiling, Spann’s work often blends abstraction and symbolism, as seen in his Marked Man series featuring bold X forms. He holds a BFA from Rutgers and an MFA from Yale School of Art, where he received the Alice Kimball Traveling Fellowship in 2017. Spann has presented solo shows at institutions including the Tampa Museum of Art and Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, and his work has been featured in group exhibitions across the country. His paintings are held in major public and private collections, including the High Museum of Art, the Hirshhorn, the Brooklyn Museum, and LACMA.
